Organisation of carbon nanotubes and semiconductor nanowires using alumina templates

As the scaling down of the silicon metal oxide (MOS) transistor is reaching physical limitations, researchers are concentrating on finding new materials or paradigms that could enable the semiconductor industry to continue following the pace of Moore's law.  Within this context, single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) have been thoroughly investigated over the past few years and devices based on individual specimens have shown breathtaking characteristics.  Semiconductor nanowires (s-NWs) are another class of nanomaterials also studied within the frame of MOS replacement .
